With over 100 years of experience Bennett Silks is the UK's leading wholesaler and convertor of silk fabrics.
The company was founded in 1904 by William Henry Bennett in Manchester, the heart of Britain's Textile Industry.
Having started out as an agent for many types of fabrics, primarily for the clothing industry, the company rapidly expanded and decided to deal only in top quality fabrics, of which silk was the obvious choice. Thus William Henry Bennett became one of the twentieth centuries first Englishman to establish trade links with the Chinese Silk Fabrics Industry, links which are still strong today.
The company is still entirely in the Bennett family's hands, run by William Henry Bennett's great grandson Mike and his wife Joyce, who are leading the company through further expansion with the establishment of substantial silk weaving interests in Europe, India, China, Thailand.
The loyal and dedicated staff work very much as a team with the Bennett Family, to produce a closely-knit company which is keen and able to take advantage of market changes, whilst still offering a very personal and efficient service to our customers.
In 1987 a co-ordination bid to capture the market in silk for interior decoration was launched. The basis of the Bennett Silk Collections was exotic Italian silks and traditional English designs printed in Macclesfield, England's historic silk town. These designs, combined with more contemporary woven and printed silks, together with a complete selection of co-ordinating plain silks have been refined and increased over the years and now feature eighteen individual collections. Attention to detail and personal supervision from start to finish shows in all the Bennett collections.
Having secured it's UK customer base, Bennett Silks are now expanding world wide, supplying many leading fashion, interior, contract and retail clients.
Further expansion followed in the year 2001 with the aquisition of the French company Henri Portier, a well known and respected name synominous with luxurious silks. This has led to a significant increase in the European influence in the Bennett Silks range with the addition of many more fine quality silks and unique patented conversion techniques.
In 2016 a majority shareholding was purchased in French weaving mill FCN Textiles (formerly TBM Soires), giving Bennett Silks its own European production facility in the heart of the French silk area.
This aquisition proved even more beneficial in 2021, enabling the creation of Bennett Silks Europe to counter the extra charges and complications inflictied on EU customers since Brexit. Bennett Silks EU customers can contiue to order safe in the knowledge that there goods will be delivered exactly as they always have been with no extra charges or delays.
